Progress

Perhaps I should go to Italy to get calmed down. I can’t look at this team as a “lovable, rag-tag group of young players” that is doing a good job by getting to within striking distance of first place given how they have played. Although the team is a little more likeable (with [...]

Progress

Len,
That is a very calm and collected evaluation. Italy must agree with you.

I like the progress we made

One-half game out of first place is not bad from where we came from and with all of the injuries on the pitching staff.
All in all Torre has done a good job. I like the addition of Al Leiter because he knows how to win and can pitch in a big, important game. [...]

Be careful

I was so happy the Yanks cut Quantrill , but after what we saw last nite- be careful what you wish for!

Sending a message

I have seen Joe Torre do this before. He is sending a message to management that he desparately needs pitching help. I’m not saying he purposely lost last night’s game, but I think how he managed sent a message upstairs.

Devil’s Advocate

I understand that we are going to need a rested bullpen. So maybe I agree and disagree but let me flesh out my point a little more.
Here’s the record. After 30 games this team was 11-19. In its next 18 it went 16-2. Then it lost 9 of 11. [...]

Devil’s Advocate

I agree and I disagree.
We NEED to win the games when we get a good effort from our starting pitchers. So, Mussina should have been extended into the seventh, then Rodriguez for the eighth and maybe the ninth. Gordon goes in if Felix gets in trouble.
However, the race is going to be like [...]

Up-n-Down

I concur. Moose should have gone out for the 7th. F Rod would have been ready – if Joe was dead set on using him anyway.
I thought Moose pitched a great game and executed a well thought out plan. The first two times through the order he threw first pitch [...]

Up-n-Down.

I hope this is not another stretch of up one down one that we experienced in April and early June. I can’t get to upset because we stole one on Monday. Joe tempted fate way too much in that inning and it bit him.
According to the papers.. Tanyon Sturtze was unavailable [...]

NO!

I couldn’t agree more. When F-Rod got through the 7th, we took the lead in the top of the 8th. I said, “We got this game.” I was thinking: 1 inning Gordon, 1 inning Rivera. Gordon didn’t pitch yesterday, and Rivera can go an inning (he’s the damn closer). I [...]
