I Agree…Somewhat.

This is what makes baseball different and special. Our definition of “success” in either league is evolving over time because of smaller ballparks, stronger hitters and steroid use, less pitching talent, etc. When I was young, a really good All-Star caliber pitching had an era under 3.00 in the AL and under 2.75 [...]

I Agree…Somewhat

Nice post Russ.
Randy Johnson, during his first stint in the AL with Seattle hit over 300 strikeouts only once in 1996 with 308.
He exceeded that mark in 1998 when he was traded to Houston (329 Ks; 116ks in 11 starts in Houston). In his first full year in the NL [...]

I Agree…Somewhat

Great Post. You could have guessed that I would have wanted in on this discussion. While it is true that picking a NL pitcher who has a good era in bandboxes will on balance help you in the AL, you want a pitcher with a good track record, however, there are other [...]

I Agree…Somewhat.

Pettitte has said that anyone who tells you that pitching in the NL is not easier than pitching in the AL is lying, and his numbers show this. Clemens has been dominant, and those factors do no doubt help his cause, but you still have to marvel at the numbers. 3 ER in [...]

Holy Crap? My Ass.

That’s what the National League will do for a pitcher. The guy gets handed nearly two automatic outs in every lineup. He only travels with the team for the games he pitches and doesn’t need to come to the park on the days that he doesn’t pitch. He has a distinct advantage [...]

Holy Crap.

Clemens has given up 3 ER on the road this year in 11 starts for a 0.37 ERA. He has given up 26 ER at home in 14 starts for a 2.40 ERA. The Man is a flat-out freak of nature. His ERA hasn’t been above 2.00 in any month this year. [...]

A-Rod

He made another great defensive play last night too. He didn’t come through with the bases loaded last night, but I would say for the past month he has been real sharp. I don’t think he’s made an error since June 18th or something like that.
Yes and I agree with the comment that [...]

A-Rod

Since A-Rod hit that monster HR at the Stadium weekend before last he seems to have discovered a zone. His demeanor seems more intense in the dugout, even his glove is sharper. I don’t know if a clutch-o-meter rating needs upgrading, but he is looking real good to me.

Unit – Watch

What is that? 28 or 29? In either case, that’s worse than Richard Dotson in 1988 who gave up 27 in 171 innings pitched. Some may say that Dotson is still worse because that was in an era that was not home run happy.
It’s bad any way you cut it. [...]
