In order for players to be eligible for the postseason, they must be on a team’s 40 man roster by the close of transactions on August 31. Playoff rosters (25 man active) have to be submitted prior to each round of the playoffs. I would think the Division Series roster would have to be set by a certain time on October 3.

Third base could be what the Yankees are thinking. I guess it’s my opinion then that I don’t consider Bellhorn a viable option at that position which is why he has not played it in a couple of years.

I am speculating on Mussina’s problems due to his body language. For example, I can tell when he’s upset at a call because he stays in his follow through for a couple of moments as he receives the ball back from Posada. He then walks off the mound. Sometimes when it’s really bad, if the camera catches him you can see him wrinkle the corners of his mouth. Other times he just gives the “blank stare.” I saw that on a couple of occasions last night.

This is in contrast to Clemens who used to walk towards home plate to receive the ball. Wells used the over-exaggerated sigh, and when it was bad would look up and mutter when he turned his back to the umpire. Cone used to puff out his cheeks, which I think Pettitte picked up.
