And the winner is…

In honor of this being the last friday before the new year, I figured this would be a good time to share some Yankee Roundtable statistics for 2005. There have been an amazing 801 posts to the Roundtable since July 1st (Yankee Roundtable Opening Day). Some have certainly posted more than others and [...]

Out of Egypt

Cairo got a little greedy based on his good year with the Yankees. He didn’t play as well for the Mets in an everyday role (because Matusi is no good). However at $1 million this is the veteran utility player we needed on the bench especially since it is obvious that Cano is [...]

Out of Egypt

Yanks sign Miguel Cairo. He was quiet with the Mets, not sure the opportunities he had. I know Len liked him and will be happy. This is the kind of utility role player Torre has been effective with.

Toronto to Sign Spiezio, Lure Williams from Retirement

Reports have surfaced that J.P. Ricciardi is close to signing Scott Spiezio and is working to lure Matt Williams from retirement. Ricciardi made veal saltimbocca at his home during the holiday weekend for Williams and his wife.
With the completion of these moves, Toronto’s lineup will look something like the following:
3B Aaron Hill
3B Corey [...]

No Clue Why Giants are in Playoffs

Even after reading the official tiebreaker rules I have absolutely no idea why the Giants are guaranteed a playoff spot when there are two teams that are 10-5 (Tampa and Carolina) and two teams that are 9-6 (Skins and Cowboys). If the Giants, Tampa and Carolina lose and Dallas and Washington win, everybody is [...]

Grateful for Roundtable

Here’s another thing to be grateful for: Since we all love baseball and this site is dedicated to talking about the Yankees (and baseball topics) 13 months a year….. I am pleased to say that there are 50 days remaining until pitchers and catchers report.
A couple of things:
1) Millwood [...]

Grateful for Roundtable

I woke Monday to find that the New York Football Giants, as Howard Cosell referred to them until the day he died, had clinched the playoffs. I can’t figure why, and no one seems to have written why Vikes loss created it. At any rate, if it was baseball and the Yanks, the [...]

Brown for Damon

The acquisition of Damon can be evaluated on many levels. How about this. In 2006, the Yankees will pay Damon $12M to play centerfield. Last year they paid Kevin Brown $15.5M to take up space. They are a better team already.
FYI, I passed Yankee Stadium on Christmas day and the sign [...]

New Look Yanks…

Sheffield will be a pain. Joe will continue to cater to him.
The 2006 is better on paper than the 2005 team. Does that translate into greater success? I don’t know. I heard a report today that Toronto is on the verge of acquiring Troy Glaus.

New Look Yanks….

Lineup… I know Sheffield will never agree to this, but this is the best lineup.
1. Damon – CF – Bats L
2. Jeter – SS – Bats R
3. Giambi -DH/1B – Bats L
4. Rodriguez – 3b – Bast R
5. Matsui – LF – Bats L
6. Sheffield – RF – Bats R
7. Cano – 2b – [...]
