Grateful for Roundtable
by RussHere’s another thing to be grateful for: Since we all love baseball and this site is dedicated to talking about the Yankees (and baseball topics) 13 months a year….. I am pleased to say that there are 50 days remaining until pitchers and catchers report.
A couple of things:
1) Millwood to the Rangers. It’s good to see the Rangers building a staff in reverse. Padilla (#5), Eaton (#4) and Millwood (#3). Now all they need is a #2 starter and an ace. Begging the question: What are they thinking?
2) The Blue Jays. They have made some pretty good moves. I know they are the media darlings of the moment. However, how many 3B/1B can you collect? Glaus, Overbay, Hillebrand, Hinske, Koskie…. it’s a little crowded over there. I’m not sure if this is a sound “team concept.” I would imagine they have a couple of moves left… Although I relish the fact of the Blue Jays taking the “media darling” role from the Red Sox.
3) I heard a little bit of the talk on WFAN yesterday. I know the key to the game is pitching, and the Yankees pitching leaves something to be desired at this point. But can we calm down and not annoint Beckett the next Roger Clemens? I know he’s a good young arm and he performed great in the 2003 World Series, but similar to a hot goaltender, a pitcher can get hot too and carry a team. Can Beckett make 34 starts and pitch 215 innings in a season before we start making him to be something he’s not.
Just some of my thoughts.
Anyway, happy new year to all at the Roundtable!
