The difference in money is ridiculus. But the deal is also bad for Baltimore talent wise, because Clement has been such a bust. At least if Baltimore were getting a decent middle of the rotation pitcher, maybe they could justify it to themselves by saying: “We’re getting the premiere RBI man of this generation and a solid #3 starter, we are instantly better today than we were yesterday.” Tejeda is very good, but he’s no Manny. I know Manny has D. Ortiz, but Manny was Manny before Ortiz got there. What complicates it further is that Manny is a 10/5 player and they need his approval. Assuming they get it, Manny can still change his mind and demand a trade because he’s got more than 6 years of service and was traded in the middle of a long term deal. Manny holds all the cards and he changes his mind depending on which way the wind is blowing.

I think I saw a report which sends me to Tampa Bay (assuming my elbow is healthy by Feb. 1) as part of the compensation for the Baez/Lugo end of the deal. At least I’ll be close to Steinbrenner to bug him about the team. : )
