According to the Post. Mr. Johnson was a little miffed at his teammates yesterday during the first live batting practice for not swinging at his offerings. The BP group included Jeter, Sheffield, Damon and catching prospect Will Nieves.

Randy grazed Damon in the left forearm with the third pitch of live BP. In the first round of BP, Damon did not swing at any of the 5 pitches thrown, neither did Jeter or Sheffield. Nieves swung at the 16th pitch thrown by Johnson and fouled it off. He also swung at three of the next four pitches. In the second round, Damon had to jump out of the way of a “tight” fastball, took a pitch, grounded weakly to short and took two more pitches. Jeter then took all five pitches thrown to him, and Sheff then hacked at 4 of 5 pitches.

Joe said “I think Randy was a little upset they weren’t swinging”. When the reporter asked Randy if he was the pitcher the Yankee hitters would least like to face on opening day of BP Johnson said “They are my teammates, so they were safe. Some of them.”

Mattingly apparently decided who would face who in BP. Giambi got to face J.Wright and served a flat curve over the fence.

Got to love spring training. The sports writers will write about anything. They are as itchy as we are to get it going.
