Len, I can’t agree with you any more. Unfortunately, other ballplayers around the league respect him (for some reason I can’t grasp) including many of the Yankees. Which is why he is such a bad influence. When he doesn’t run out ground balls, he doesn’t hustle in the field, his approach at the plate at times, his obessession with his contract status – all bad. I like the way Cashman diffused the contract situation, but it would appear with his new found “authority” or confidence or whatever you want to call it – Cashman will be looking for another, younger and equally productive rightfielder for the team and dump Sheffield to an offense starved, playoff contender.
