I had a number of Brushes with Yankees when I published Sports Card Trader, but here are a couple of unusual ones. I had a press pass to the 1992 Yankee fan fest at the Javits center. Got to say a word or two to alot of yankees past and present, but there were two guys sitting alone in the press room – nobody talking to them. The first was Roy White. I sat down and talked to him for about ten minutes. What a gentleman. I think he appreciated someone taking an interest in him at that time. The other was Mel Allen. Talked to him for about 20 minutes. My feature writer had a tape recorder and we asked Mel to do a promo for the magazine. “Hello everybody. This is Mel Allen for Sports Card Trader” What a thrill. I never was able to use it though, and don’t even have the recording now. Too bad. On Roundtable Day, I’ll tell you about meeting The Yankee Clipper.
