Brushes with Yankees
by Mike TInteresting story John. Sounds like it was a fun event. Jeanne and I went to a charity auction for Westchester Medical Center Children’s hospital at MSG in 2000. The Charity hosts were David Cone and Mike Richter. Richter was very quiet. Cone wasn’t and was very friendly. Jeanne and I had a few minute chat with him and he autographed my ticket and scorecard from his perfect game (I still have to frame those). Cone was hilarious at the auction. He was auctioning off game jerseys then would say something like.. “Maybe its the scothc talking, but lets say that with this jersey you and the family get to come on the field for batting practice hang out in the dugout before the game and sit behind the plate.” Jersey went for like 6,000 or something. Then later when he was auctioning off a glove, he says “Must be the scotch but lets add a personal pitching lesson for your son on the mound and you get to meet my good friend Derek Jeter.” That went for like $10,000. When the bidding was starting I told Jeanne to bid $1,500 because I knew we would get out bid. Anyway Cone was fun.
Bernie Williams used to frequent the Lazy Boy Saloon in White Plains. Jeanne’s roommate sat next to Bernie and actually told him to move over one seat because her spot was at the end of the bar. Bernie complied.
Krissy has conversations with Michael Kay through her YES network connections. She likes him. Although I think he is not the most humble of people.
