Randy deal done
by RussYahoo Sports is reporting the Yankees and Diamondbacks have finalized their deal and the Diamondbacks are ready to request the 72 hour window from MLB to talk to Randy. Unconfirmed reports indicate that Arizona and Randy have a handshake deal for a one year extension worth $10 million, presumably so Johnson can get his 300th win in an Arizona uniform.   The Yanks are getting Luiz Vizcanio who is a steady relief pitcher and another young arm.  There was no indication about money.Â
Bernie is going to be a tough call. 12 pitchers is a lot, but I don’t think the Yankees are prepared to make that decision because the quality of the bullpen is an unknown at this point. The choices are: 1) Don’t sign him; 2) Give him a $1 million deal – guaranteed and see what happens; or 3) sign him to a minor league deal, invitation to spring training with lots of incentives. Choice #3 is risky because you may insult Bernie with that offer, unless you make it clear it is to give the club roster flexibility with a nod and wink that he will make the team. I think Torre will see to that.
