I am definitely in the minority when it comes to favoring Mazeroski’s HOF candidacy.  When I actually took the time to look at his statistics and compare them to his contemporaries I was impressed.  What finally persauded me was when I compared him to other great defenders like Ozzie Smith. To say Mazeroski was a great fielder is an understatement.  He was arguably the greatest defensive player, at any position, in the history of the game.  Â
