Can someone explain to me why Mike Lupica is permitted by the Daily News to write about the political process?  Seriously, this is why I read the Post!  But today, eveyone bought all the NY Post copies out of the machine so I was forced to read the Daily Snooze! Just awful.   

And since there is nothing remotely interesting happening in the world of baseball, here are a few random thoughts:

1.  I’m sad to report, but the country is not ready to elect someone named Barak Hussien Obama as its president.  Just aint gonna happen.   Can you imagine the negative ads on this.

2. The wordsmithing associated with the troop “surge” vs. “escalation” is ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that any democract with presidential aspirations has to walk such a fine line that they sound like idiots.

3. The 4 hour season premiere of 24 was awesome, except for the dumb subpolt with the president’s sister and her civil rights crusade.  Dumb.  I personally love how her boyfriend (who is in jail because he was wrongfully caught up in the racial profiling arrests) has told her to take her ACLU arguments and shove them so he can stay in prison to collect information from suspected terrorists.  NICE!

4.  Is it just me, or does Jack Bauer look remarkably healthy for someone who just spent over 20 months in a Chinese prison?  I know he has scars and all, but doesn’t he seem relatively healthy and fit?

5.  How old is Jack?  In “24″ time it has been almost 11 years since we first saw Jack Bauer.  This is the third presidential term during which he has to fight terrorists (Season 1 Presidential Primaries, Seasons 2-3 Palmer’s term, Season 4-5 Keeler/Logan terms, Season 6 Palmer II term).  Prior to CTU, Jack was US Army Delta Force and  LAPD SWAT.  In Season 1 he was the Special Agent in Charge of CTU and had a daughter who was roughly 16 years old.  My guess is, by now, Jack has to be in his mid 50’s. Â
