Another note from today is that Art Fowler passed away.  Art Fowler, Billy Martin’s best friend and Yankees pitching coach during the 1970’s (Art actually followed Billy around to other teams as well).  I was too young to be able to evaluate how Art was as a pitching coach, except to say that Art was Billy’s drinking, hunting and fishing buddy.  If the team was going bad, then Steinbrenner would blame everything on Art and threaten to fire him which of course would get Billy up in arms.  It was a comedy routine, George knew how to get under Billy’s skin and Art was one of those things that would get him going.  Other than that – you could look Art up and know that he was a mediocre pitcher during his career, most notably for the Dodgers.  He will be remembered mostly for his coaching contributions as a “baseball man.” Goodbye, Art.   Â
