Santana

If I’m the Twins GM, and I’m looking at Morneau, Mauer and Santana and I have to trade one (or even two) of these players, the last one I look to move is Santana.  The first one I look to move is Morneau.  However, that assumes Santana wishes to stay – I don’t know Santana, [...]

Why Does Boston Get a Discount?

Why is it that you see teams willing to give Boston a break when in comes to the cash part of big baseball deals?
In January 2005, to Get Randy Johnson for 1 year at $16M and a chance to negotiate an extension, the Yankees had to give up Javier Vazquez (who had 3 years and [...]

The Yankee Rotation in late 2007, 2008?

LHP Johan Santana
RHP Chien Ming Wang
LHP Andy Pettitte
RHP Philip Hughes
RHP Mike Mussina
Read this article on the Twins situation. Reigning MVP Morneau and batting champ/catcher Mauer are going to command big pay days. The Yankees have the pitching prospects to pry Santana from the Twins and the money to sign him to a big extension.

The Red Sox are the new Yankees

At first I was concerned when I heard this rumor – and now not so much.  Helton is a very fine player.  However, a couple of things to be concerned about if I were living in Red Sox Nation.  1) Helton turns 34 this year and in recent years has had injury issues (back, stomach [...]

The Red Sox are the new Yankees

So, the Red Sox (er Larry Lucchino) revived Todd Helton trade talks. And, apparently, the sides are in agreement on dollars but NOT in agreement on the players.
The Sox would pick up all but $40 Million of the $90 Million remaining on Helton’s ten year contract and send Julian Tavarez and Mike Lowell to Colorado. BUT, [...]

Bernie Williams

Again, no career retrospectives at this time.  I read some quotes off of the official site from Bernie and it seems like he’s got the right attitude.  It doesn’t sound like he’s got a burning desire to play for another team.  It would appear that if the Yankees come calling for his limited role, then [...]

Jeter’s Armor

Jeter’s armor is not inpenetrable.  His handling of the A-Rod mess deserves a near failing grade in my opinion (which could be resurrected to a certain extent).  In matters of the heart, Mr. and Mrs. Jeter did a fine job in raising him so he’s probably nothing but a gentleman.

Give that man a try-out

Not a big tennis fan, but Roger Federer is looking as a possible greatest of all-time in his sport. Think of the serve he has, think of the right arm he has which delivers that serve, think I wish he could pitch for the Yanks. Nine majors before he wraps up number 10 in Melbourne [...]

Yankees going to China

Interesting article in the Times about the Yankees executives visiting China. They have the blessing of MLB to open up merchandising oportunities, which will benefit all of baseball.  And while they’re there, maybe look into starting a baseball academy like they do in Latin America.  As a business, they are way ahead of everybody else.

Randolph Rewarded

The Mets brass must read the Roundtable.  Willie was rewarded as he should have been.  They ripped up his deal for 2007 and gave him a nice raise.  Here’s the breakdown: 2007 – $1.4 million; 2008 – $2 million; 2009 – $2.25 million; and club option for 2010 at $2.5 million.  This is a good [...]
