Mayor’s in Town…

The Mayor showed up in Tampa.  The reporters, looking to make waves, noted that Mo’s longtime teammate, Bernie, was no longer there and Mo’s contract is up in 2007.  The mayor took it all in stride….
“Definitely, I want to finish my career here,” Rivera said. “But if they don’t give me the respect that I [...]

Buster’s Words on Bernie.

Here’s what Buster Olney wrote about Bernie….

For now, it appears that Bernie Williams’ time with the Yankees is over, with the center fielder leaning against taking a minor league invitation to spring training, and this morning I was trying to think of some defining moments from his career. He hit a big home run off [...]

George…

In this Newsday piece, the author basically writes an obituary for “The Boss”.  Basically saying that George has lost it and should fade away.  Not a nice stance to take for one of the greatest owners. (from a fan standpoint his goal was always to win.  You can’t ask for more).

A New Season

As we Roundtablers get ready to pontificate on all the details, nuances, stats, rosters, managerial moves, player egos, leasdership skills, and personality defects that will, no doubt be subjects of 2007 season discussions, we should all remember the words of Nuke LaLoosh in “Bull Durham” “This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, [...]

Lockers

As many know, Bernie has prime real estate in the Yankee Clubhouse as the longest tenured player.  He has the corner locker which is the biggest in the room.  It would probably go to Mariano if Bernie is not on the team this year.
As for Thurman’s locker – I’m sure it will be preserved and [...]

T-Minus 1 DAY!!!

Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow!!!
There is no name over Bernie’s locker at Legend’s Field.  I wonder if, now that Bernie has rejected the minor-league offer, anyone will use that locker during this year’s spring training?  Who will get his locker in NY if he is not on the Roster….It is an interesting, if somewhat irrelevant [...]

Roster

The absurdity of the current roster is that it dedicates 3 roster spots to first base (Doug M., Phillips, Giambi).  That’s a waste and it takes a roster spot away.   Miguel Cairo can also play first base.  Melky is definitely set on this roster as the 4th OF.  I also personally think 12 pitchers are [...]

Bernie

The Yankees were in a tough spot with Bernie. They don’t want him back, but didn’t want to completely insult him (which they did anyway) by not inviting him at all.
Cashman should have made the difficult decision himself by not inviting him to spring training. Instead, he put the decision on Torre’s shoulders as part of creating his roster coming out of spring training. Bernie [...]

Bernie

I agree that Doug M. is a waste.  But, I don’t have much of a problem about how the Yankees are treating Bernie (with the exception of the unnecessary signing of Doug M.).  The Yankees have made Bernie very wealthy and I don’t think either side owes the other anything.  I don’t blame Bernie for [...]
