Respect…

You can tell it’s a snow (slow?) day.  I am concerned about the effect of astronomical payrolls on ticket prices too.  But if the Yankees slashed $40 million from payroll tomorrow, would they cut ticket prices?

Respect…

To beat this dead horse a little more.  With all the talk of “Respect”, ultimately it comes down to dollars and cents.  Cashman has reason to be concerned about givin Mo a 3 year deal before spring training.  Remember, Mo had to be shut down for a month late last year to allow his arm [...]

Rivera

Mike cites the general rule on paying closers perfectly.  They don’t earn the stratosphere money because they don’t play everyday or generate the innings the way starting pitchers do.  Rivera is not the typical case.  When you are a team that considers itself a pennant contending club year after year – a good closer is [...]

Crankiness…

This is the off season pitcher crankiness.  First it was Schilling with “I want an extension now or I will become a free agent.” [Just ignore the fact that I'm 40 and don't want you to judge next year's contract on this year's performace].  Then it was Zambrano “The Cubs better give me a long [...]

Rivera

John, I see your point with regard to compensation and the fact that Rivera enjoys being a Yankee.  The fact that Rivera enjoys being a Yankee is an argument in favor of giving him his “payday.”  And, true, Rivera takes a little less because he wants a chance to win every year and not go [...]

Rivera – Perspective

Russ and Mike T: You’re both correct. So, don’t spear each other just yet.
Mike T: Rivera DID give the Yankees a break by never becoming a free agent. He never pulled a “Bernie” and entertained going to Boston. Imagine his payday if he had?
Russ: Unfortunately, pay and performance are not linear. Heck, most of the time [...]

Rivera

The other thing that annoys me is that the Yankees throw all kinds of money on losers. Why should Mo be asked to take less because the Yankees made stupid decisions?  Kevin Brown, etc., etc., we could go on and on.

Rivera

I disagree.  Your own numbers bear out the absurdity of this.  Wagner and Mo earn the same money?  Are they worth the same?  Rivera earned $10.5 million last year.  Is he the 8th most important Yankee on the team?  List the Yankees that currently make more: A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi, Mussina, Damon, Matusi, and Abreu.  Heck, [...]
