George Mitchell
by RussMitchell is approximately a year into his investigation. He recently confirmed that his investigators are at spring training camps in FLA and ARI. He also recently reported to the owners that he received “less than stellar cooperation” from various clubs and “no cooperation” from the players.Â
As I said last year, teams and players that do not cooperate with the Mitchell investigation do so at their own risk. If Mitchell’s report has a paragraph in there about the “results are unreliable” or “no definitive conclusions can be reached” because there was no cooperation – Congress has already said if baseball doesn’t do it, “WE WILL.” Now, I don’t have to remind everyone that Congress has supoena power. So, they can cooperate now or be forced to testify later. Based on the grandstanding that occurred during the “McGwire” hearings and the fact that George Mitchell is friends with those serving in Congress, does anyone doubt that Congress will seize the opportunity and poke their noses in this?  Â
