In Other News the Sun Rose in the East.

TAMPA, Fla. — On the first day of his fourth season with the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez finally acknowledged his relationship with Derek Jeter has cooled.
After insisting for three years that they remained close, Rodriguez said it was “important” to him to publicly confirm what others have said since he joined the team.
“People start assuming that [...]

Jeter

Joe,
A very good post.  Jeter does have these shortcomings.  He is 32 now.  He’s got to start acting like a “take charge” veteran.  There can be no sweeping things under the rug.  Everyone knows how I feel about Torre.  Torre was great when we had the “self starter” group as I call them.  O’Neill, Cone, [...]

Yankees Camp and YES!

Joe – Absolutely correct on Jeter. If Torre is going to play favorites and if Jeter hasn’t learned to be a leader, which it appears he hasn’t, we can throw any hope of a “Big Year” out the window.
I have no problem with Mussina speaking his mind. Why is it acceptable for A-Rod, a player who [...]

Yankees Camp

The only thing you missed is Torre throwing Phillips under the bus by saying to Bernie and the media that Mientkiewicz can play first full time.  Obviously, Torre and Cashman are not on the same page.  In the past, I thought Torre’s strength was how he handled the players, and senior management.  Like Bernie, Torre [...]

Yankees Camp

Ok, so far here’s what we’ve had:
Bernie being invited as a minor league, non-roster invitee.  Bernie says “no thanks” I’d rather be in PR with my family.  Torre, Jeter and Mariano start the campaign to get Bernie into camp saying Giambi already has a leg cramp.
Mariano sounds off about his contract and the fact that [...]

Don’t invite to same party

For the second time recently, Mussina is firing verbal chin-music at Pavano. The guy must be showing no work ethic after just a few days in camp. Mussina still has no ring and is getting long in the tooth, I guess he is unwilling to put up with a prima donna in the rotation without [...]

Enough Contract Talk

Back to on the field business.  Did anyone notice how Carl Pavano looked?  He appeared slimmer than I remember (although I admit I’ve only seen pictures on milk cartons).  He better be in shape….
I missed Torre’s “state of the union” with the beat reporters.  How did he respond to questions regarding the Jeter and A-Rod [...]

Ticket prices

On Russ’s had to be rhetorical question yesterday – attendance is up Yanks and MLB in general, and pricing for major sports in NYC metro is extremely inelastic. (The Islanders cut prices by special packages, but that’s not my idea of a major sport.) I would predict the New Yankee stadium with fewer non-skybox seats [...]

Respect…

You can tell it’s a snow (slow?) day.  I am concerned about the effect of astronomical payrolls on ticket prices too.  But if the Yankees slashed $40 million from payroll tomorrow, would they cut ticket prices?

Respect…

To beat this dead horse a little more.  With all the talk of “Respect”, ultimately it comes down to dollars and cents.  Cashman has reason to be concerned about givin Mo a 3 year deal before spring training.  Remember, Mo had to be shut down for a month late last year to allow his arm [...]
