Actually…I got a call and never finished my thought on the analogy:
A vehicle with significant highway mileage may experience less wear & tear than a vehicle with less mileage that is mostly the result of city driving.

I think that “innings pitched” probably isn’t the sole measure of wear & tear on a pitcher’s arm. Starting pitchers are on schedules with throwing and non-throwing days. So, a starting pitchers arm is exposed to scheduled/predictable/routine rest. The human body loves routine and can adjust to repair itself during the rest periods. Â
