DICE K WINS CY YOUNG!

After his first start.  Seriously, by my review it seems that Dice K did just as well as his young counterpart, Zack Grienke.  Both had the same ERA for the day.  Who out there wants to say: “It’s just the Royals, man.”
I think we need to go to DEFCON 3.

C.C.C.

Good post Mike T. Take a look at the Runs Created (RC) saber measure:
The formula is:
RC = [(H + BB + HBP - CS - GIDP) times (Total bases + .26[BB - IBB + HBP] + .52[SH + SF + SB])] divided by (AB + BB + HBP + SH+ SF)
This measure penalizes for Caught [...]

Regarding the Clutch Count Controversy – I did not take John’s post as a complete assault on the clutch count.  Rather, I understood where he was coming from.  I tried to research how we could check the Clutch Count againt stats like LIPS (Late Inn Pressure Situation) also known as Close and Late and batt [...]

Out of Context

True, if the definition is changed then the measurement is somewhat altered and consequently our view of someone’s “clutchworthiness” in later years. I don’t know that we’re changing the rules though.  That’s where the discretionary pointes come in.  To continue the example, Jeter’s 6th inning single the other day probably merits a discretionary point.  I [...]

Out of Context

Joe, you took my comment completely out of context. I did not characterize clutch count as completely worthless.
I said that, since the rules seem to be changing for 2007, Clutch Count is completely worthless “as an historic frame of reference.”
If MLB decided today that fly balls that hit the outfield wall are going to count as [...]

Clutch Count 2007

John, while what your saying has some merit, I couldn’t disagree more with your conclusion.  Last year’s Clutch Count was very meaningful to the Roundtable, and I agree with Russ that it was as true an evaluation of clutch as any, including the close and late stats.  I disagree that the count favored Jeter.  I [...]

The long awaited start…

Some may think it’s Andy Pettitte.  No, tonight Mr. Dice-K goes for the Red Sox Nation.  The “Nation” will be hanging on every pitch and see how he can do agains the Kansas City Royals.  Some may say, that’s not a good test.  Red Sox fans will tell you those Royals shelled their beloved Curt [...]
