Very nice outing last night in Minnesota. Very economical. I think his velocity needs to improve but that will come over the next couple of starts. He mixed in a split finger with his high fastball clocked about 91 mph. Needs to improve his slider a little, but he had a good game plan and [...]

I think that for 2007 I am going to periodically post the “Runs Created in Close and Late Situations” for comparison with Clutch Count. Â
2007 Runs Created in Close an Late Situations:
Giambi: 2.6
A-Rod: 2.1
Jeter: 0.4

A-Rod: 4.5
Giambi: 2.2
Jeter: 1.5Â
Runs Created =Â [(H + BB + HBP - CS - GIDP) times (Total bases + .26[BB [...]

But I bet ESPN finds a [...]

I agree with you both. My vote says update the rule to include these situations. Mike T. How about you telling us what’s on your mind in this week’s Cup… baseball or otherwise?

I was mulling over the Giambi situation as well. If not for Giambi’s 3-run shot, the later A-Rod clutch situation would not have existed. But, the team was down by 4, and I don’t think your implementation works. Say that Giambi gets a base hit in that situation and only one run [...]
