Joe, I’ve consulted my advisor, his Holiness, the 13th Dalai Lama and he agrees with you.  Jeter’s lack of compassion has had troubling consequences over his performance in the early going this season.

Histrionics aside, I think it is time to admit this first base experiment has not worked.  Some may think it’s too soon to scrap it.  I say, if Doug M., had a better track record I’d be willing to give some more leeway, but the men on base have a way of finding Doug with a bat in his hands.  He’s not even having productive at-bats.  Some may say: “hold on aren’t you screaming about defense?”  Yes, but Doug M., is just small cog in the wheel.  We need better defense from Jeter primarily – he’s the shortstop and we need some better concentration from Cano and Posada and others too, I’m not just picking on them (I’ve seen Abreu have some miscues out there as well).  Call up Phillips, tell Bernie to report to Scranton for 14 days and take some swings.  Â
