What the f#*% was that this weekend?  Can they play any worse defensively?  If you’re going to run out the latest guy from the bus leagues the least you can do is play some good defense!  So next weekend against Boston it’s going to be Pettitte, Karstens (maybe) and Chase Wright?  That will strike fear into the heart of Big Papi.  Nice going!  Where do I start?

1) The DL?  The Yankees have a whole practice squad on the Disabled List.  What the f?  At least last year, Matusi and Sheffield broke and/or tore their wrists or ligaments.  There’s nothing you can do about that.  But this year, this is inexcusable.  I know they are all annoying little injuries – but three fifths of the rotation is out.  Cashman, I want to see you in my office right now!

2) Defense.  What the heck is going on here?  Look, I don’t have any unrealistic expectations I didn’t think they were going to be all-world.  But you have to play some defense.  Especially with this staff.  Pettitte and Wang (when he comes back) are going to induce loads of groundballs.  Cano’s lackadaiscal relay yesterday was a definite “no-no.”  I don’t see any concentration out there.

3) Doug M.  I mean, did this guy forget how to play baseball?  First he goes 0 for 24.  Then, he makes a bad throw to bring Posada off the plate in the extra innings on Friday night.  Then, he can’t move any runners up on Sunday.  Then, he finally gets to third base (when was the last time he was on third base for crying out loud!) and he gets nailed at home on a wild pitch.  I didn’t think it was a bad play to go – but had I known he was going to freakin lollygag to home plate, I might have felt differently.  A-Rod waved him home and I’m sure he was thinking (jeez – this guy is slower than Jorge!).  This is not going to work.  Torre should at least “temporarily” award the job to Phelps and if he doesn’t hit – scrap this project, which was ill conceived from the beginning and just bring Andy Phillips up.  Cashman, I want to see you in my office right now!

4) Rivera.  He made a bad pitch.  Bad location.  I thought Laz Diaz “squeezed” him but there really isn’t any excuse because he had him 0-2.  These things happen.  I’m more worried about the big picture right now, rather than losing any one particular game.

So, Roundtable, where are we
