Mike T, good points on Sheffield. He had to be the negative influence as you stated. Even on Joe Torre. Sheffied is my prime example of a ball player who is vastly over rated. His stats look good but he detracts more than he adds to a “team.”
As far as a [...]

Len’s post reminds me of the post that I started but did not finish. It was part of the Cup-o-Joe but thought it should be its own post.  Basically, I think the absence of Sheffield is a major factor in A-Rod’s resurgence. Why?  Because:
Sheffield was batting ahead of A-Rod. A-Rod would have to stand in the [...]

Gary Sheffield is batting .137 for the Tigers. I really miss him.
You have to like the poise of Wright pitching last night. He looked polished and with a big lead he was correctly throwing strikes and not walking batters.
A-Rod continues to impress. With the starters on the DL where would we be [...]

Nice, now I have the “Cheers” theme in my head. Good show, too bad it was set in Boston.

NY Post writer, Kevin Kiernan, makes a good point. The time is slipping away for Pavano:
The door is open. The Yankees are getting tired of waiting for Pavano. On the flight back from Oakland one veteran Yankee went to Pavano to let him know the team needs him to come back as quickly as he [...]

Making your way in the AL East takes every arm you’ve got.
But Carl lands on the DL early, with other’s hamstrings shot.
He just likes to get away…
Pavano likes to go, where everybody knows his name
and no one’s surprised he came.
The coaches and all his teammates see,
they’ll be let down again.
They want to know, “Will Carl [...]

What an All-American name. If Solomon P. Chase had married Wilbur or Orville Wright. And he has a Major League win and permanent place in the Baseball Encyclopedia. Nice.
To digress (don’t I always). There was a kid in my high school named Wright. The English teacher one year was a very weird guy. There was an empty [...]

I was negligent in not mentioning the bullpen. Brain Bruney, a Cashman project (gets credit for this) – has been an early season bright spot. The pen has been used alot – what helps is its depth so far. But, at this pace, depth or no depth – these guys won’t be able to comb [...]

The bullpen last night and thus far has been outstanding. BUT… they will burn out by July if the starters don’t pitch into the 6th and 7th on a regular basis. We’ll see what happens when everyone comes off the DL. Speaking of being on the DL, Mike G. we haven’t heard from you in [...]
