Setting the Scene: Part II

Monday, April 30, 2007, Bronx, NY:  George Steinbrenner: You people told me this wouldn’t happen. That’s what you people told me. What are you people going to do about this.  You people don’t understand.  We need to get to 27!  You people told me we could get there.  You people said you knew what you [...]

Setting the Scene: Monday Morning April 30, 2007

Bronx, NY: Off day on the schedule.  The Yankees have just been swept by the Boston Red Sox to go 8 games up in the loss column and drop the Yankees to 8-15. George Steinbrenner calls an emergency meeting with everyone.  Joe Torre is on speakerphone from Arlington, Texas.
The Boss: How could this have happened?  [...]

Getting my mind off the losing streak

From benmaller.com:
Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s reputation was the target of an attempted hit from, of all places, the Orioles’ television broadcasting booth. Gary Thorne, who does play-by-play of Orioles games on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) and has a solid national reputation, having done lots of work for ESPN, brought up the saga of [...]

Boom.

As Russ said, tonight is the BIG GAME.  If Pettitte can outduel Matsuzaka tonight, I think they could conceiveabley have a chance to sweep this weekend.  Wakefield vs. Karstens is a fair match up.  Wang should dominate Tavarez.
Here’s some predictions
SUPER BEST CASE SCENARIO – Starters turn this around, Pettite is strong, Hughes shows up, Mussina is good [...]

As I said last week. The glimmer of [...]

Spin that color guy

Who is under contract to whom? Lieter, Girardi, Flaherty. I guess you throw in Morgan on ESPN. Do we have enough color guys? How would you rate them?
Comment on Frank Thomas taking a good Hughes pitch for a solid opposite field hit last night was good observation. The Big Hurt – one of the all [...]

J’ADORE HUGHES!

Ok – not great, not awful.  Even to the fan, you can tell there’s alot of potential there.  He seemed ok on the mound.  He gave up two runs early, then he settled in.  He worked out of trouble in the 4th.  And ran out of gas in the 5th because his pitch count was [...]

Maybe the hype was too much

4 and a third innings, 7 hits 4 earned runs, not a very good start.  I know he struck out 5 and did not seem to be over matched.. except for Wells, but if he is the best pitching prospect in all of baseball, as I heard a thousand times yesterday, then Baseball is in [...]
