Spin that color guy

Who is under contract to whom? Lieter, Girardi, Flaherty. I guess you throw in Morgan on ESPN. Do we have enough color guys? How would you rate them?
Comment on Frank Thomas taking a good Hughes pitch for a solid opposite field hit last night was good observation. The Big Hurt – one of the all [...]

J’ADORE HUGHES!

Ok – not great, not awful.  Even to the fan, you can tell there’s alot of potential there.  He seemed ok on the mound.  He gave up two runs early, then he settled in.  He worked out of trouble in the 4th.  And ran out of gas in the 5th because his pitch count was [...]

Maybe the hype was too much

4 and a third innings, 7 hits 4 earned runs, not a very good start.  I know he struck out 5 and did not seem to be over matched.. except for Wells, but if he is the best pitching prospect in all of baseball, as I heard a thousand times yesterday, then Baseball is in [...]

Torre’s good move

Mike G., You know you’re in a slump when your only good move was helped out by an act of G-d.

Day off

Where is everyone? (I should talk.)  I guess there is not much to discuss today.  A day off for the Roundtable.  The day off was definitely a good thing for the ailing Yankees.  Relievers get a much needed rest, Jeter and Damon get an extra day to heal, and Torre gets to shuffle the rotation [...]

Night Off

Since we were “dark” last night to use the show biz expression, thought I’d throw in an R.I.P. for author David Halberstam. “Summer of ‘49″ – if you never read it as a Yankee fan, shame on you, just wonderful. His “Summer of ‘64″ was good too, the tail end of the Yanks magnificent era. [...]

J’ADORE HUGHES!

Hey, it’s the kid’s first start.  Let’s give him some love.  I saw a little bit in spring training.  And although I’m not going to say things like: “This guy has phoenomenal stuff.”  I thought it was good, certainly good enough to get MLB hitters out.  Pitching is more than just “stuff.”  I also saw [...]

As bad as it is….

As bad as the pitching has been, because of the insane number of runs this team has already scored, the expected W-L* record for this team is actually 11-8.   Why are they 8-11?  Because Rivera blew two saves (Oakland and Boston (although Boston is Torre’s fault) and Torre clearly mismanged 3-4 games (4/13 vs. Oakland, 4/20 [...]

It’s Early my A@$.

Last time I checked, the Baseball season does not “weight” games.  A loss in April is the same as a loss in September.   I know there have been injuries, I know the starters have been terrrible, I know the bullpen is overworked.  The problem is Torre has overworked/misused the pen, mishandled his lineup, and used [...]

Some change is needed

Joe does look clueless.   While you can’t blame him for pitchers not doing their job, you can squarely place the blame on him for miss managing his bull pen.  I agree with the comments on the Roundtable.  Why not Henn?  Why not leave Wang in the game?

I agree with John that there are some good [...]
