I Hate Abreu!!/Well that didn’t last long.
by Mike TOk. I am officially off of the Abreu bandwagon. He butchered the top of the fifth inning for Wang. First, Gerald Laird (the catcher) hits a solid line drive to right center. Abreu starts one way, then the other, then slows down, reaches up and misses the ball, which bouces away. He turns a double (or possible out) into a triple. Wang induces a ground ball. No advance. Wang induces another ground ball to A-rod, Laird tries to come home. A-rod throws to Posada. Posada runs Laird back. But because A-Rod came in on the throw, he is kind of 1/3 down the base line, Posada throws it a bit early. A-Rod is forced to chace Laird back towards the plate. Pump fakes and can’t get there in time. Runner scores, other runner advances to second. Next ball soft base hit to Right, Abreu tries to throw home, butchers the throw, misses the cut off no play at the plate runner advances to second. Next balll medium liner to right, same thing, bad throw, misses cut off. Runner scores. Luckily no advance. Wang gets hit with 3 runs. on 4 hits. Should have been 1 run at most.
Later in the game, Joe decided it was a good idea to bring in Viscaino with Wang’s runner still on base. He of course let that guy score. Caused problems in the 7th. Left a mess for Henn who then screwed up the whole thing. I am normally a Henn backer, but wow he really added to the F’ed up game today. Glad the Yankees were at .500 for a day. That was nice.
