Does this team have it in them?
by Mike THere are the facts.
- The Good – Against MIN (2-1), CLE (3-0) and TEX (5-1), the Yankees are 10-2. These are the only three teams against which the Yankees have won a series.
- The Bad – Against SEA (3-4), TB (1-3), BAL (1-2), OAK (1-2), CWS (1-2), the Yankees are 7-14.
- The Ugly – Against Boston, the Yankees are 1-5.
They are a very meager 18-21, which translates to a .461 winning percentage. In order to reach 95 wins (probably what is needed at a minimum) they would have to go 77-46, which translates to a .626 winning percentage the rest of the way. Does a team 3 games under .500 almost 25% through the season have the ability to play 31 games over .500 the remainder of the way?

The signs are not encouraging.  Â

Hate to offer an opinion from your hated rival fan base, but the psychology behind any physical activity is key in producing optimal results. Let’s examine what’s in the heads of the Yankee superstars these days:
1. The NY media is gushing over a past-prime pitcher, billing him as a savior while detailing the ridiculous hoops that a storied franchise will go through to try to keep up with the Jones’s;
2. The malaise that comes with knowing that they will soon be playing in a modernized where Babe Ruth did NOT play and where countless, historic comebacks did NOT occur. The stadium is for the fans. The players must undoubtedly prefer the mystique of the original.
3. The depression that comes from the knowledge that millions of people enjoy their failure.
4. The complacency that comes with knowing that your contract is “fully valued” (fat & happy syndrome).
The solution (which one of you jokingly brought up): Pull some youngsters up from the minors, and give them some PT. The enthusiasm will be infectious, and none of them will care about points 1, 2 or 3 while 4 will be inapplicable.
And you boys here at the Roundtable would be enjoying your life as a fan a whole lot more, I believe.
