Joe, you’re right about first base.  Phelps is a better hitter than Phillips or Doug M., but that ain’t saying much.  And you’re right that any boost in his offense does not justify playing him at first.  I’ve seen enough.  He’s awful.  I think the Yanks need to make an in-season move at this position.  Damon at first?  It’s not like I’m sitting in on practices to be able to comment on his ability, but didn’t they learn anything from last season?  I don’t know, this seems like it’s got “disaster” written all over it.

Let me comment on Cano.  He looks much better at the plate.  Oh, and I don’t care if he’s had a better week, move Abreu out of the #3 spot in the order.  No. No. No.  I don’t care how many walks he takes.  Move Matusi back.  I’d rather have Cano hitting there than Abreu.  I want my #3 hitter to have a run producer’s mentality.  When Cano is going right, he’s got that approach.

Thanks for the Rocket update.  He better get his “boosters” on the mound Saturday for lift-off.
