by John SI think my two most disheartening Yankee memories were game 7’s of the 1960 and 2001 World Series. But at least that was one game each where the disappointment was concentrated. To have lived through two full weeks of torment as Met fans did watching it fall apart day by day, like a huge asteroid approaching Earth.
People (at least maniacal baseball fans like Roundtablers) still talk and read about the 1964 Phillies collapse. Now Met fans are stuck with that albatross for 40 years or so. A heavy burden indeed.
