I’m ok with this – why so pessimistic?

You know, I’m ok.  Everything will be fine.  I was more upset last year.  I think the discussion is good.  We’re headed in a new direction.  We have young players.  This is good.  We need a new manager.  Based on Torre’s comments last night – I think he was already told by Steinbrenner’s sons (or [...]

2008 roster

Mike T. I didn’t see Matsui’s name in your list.  Is he your DH or will he be traded?  I opt to trade him.  Remember Branch “Trade a guy a year too early rather than a year too late” Rickey.  Matsui still has value but is definitely on the down slide.  Get rid of him [...]

Comments on John’s Pessimism

Posada will not sign with the Mets.  He stays a Yankee. 2 years $26Million with team option for 2010 for $14M (guaranteed with games caught/plate appearances etc.)  Russ has the right feel for the value.
Rivera.  I’ve commented on this before.  He stays.  1 Year guaranteed $11M with easily reachable 2nd and 3rd year options at [...]

Response to John B’s Predictions

Never happen
Never happen
Possible. Frankly, who cares.
Agreed.
Agreed.
Possible. But I’d rather root for the Mets
Do I have to slap you around?  Snap out of it.
Disagree.  He’ll still [...]

John B’s Predictions

I hope that’s more like worst-case-scenario.  That reads like the Bizzaro Yankees.  It’s impossible for the Yankees to have that bad of an off-season.

Blame Meter

Mike… that was a pretty good apportionment of the blame.
Len, the thought of Tony LaRussa in a Yankee uniform makes me uneasy too.  But, I did think the same thing about Torre before he became manager.  I always considered Torre a Met and a Cardinal.
I would like Mr. Steinbrenner to take a few days and [...]

Random Thoughts/Comments/Predictions

Jorge Posada will be catching for the Mets next year. He’ll sign by Christmas.
Mariano Rivera will be closing for the Boston Red Sox. He’ll sign by Thanksgiving. Papelbon will be moved to the rotation.
Alex Rodriguez will opt out and be signed to a 10 – year $38 Million per year deal by the San Francisco [...]

Blame Meter….

In order of who’s the most to blame for this latest post-season collapse:

Wang
Jeter
Posada
Torre
Midges – Plague of locusts – Whatever.
Clemens
Matsui
Abreu
A-Rod
Cabrerra
Chamberlain
Hughes
Cano
Damon
Rivera
Pettitte

Zero

As Russ pointed out the Yankees are 4 and 13 in their last 17 post season games.  I said all along Joe would not be back next season, though letting a guy of Joe’s character and class is not easy to do.
I absolutely do not Tony LaRussa to ever put on a Yankeee uniform.  Mattingkly [...]

October begins with “O”

As in O-fer.  Nada.  Zippo.  Nothing.  Rien.
This one is definitely on the players.  Jeter had more double plays than RBI.  Posada didn’t have any RBIs and hit 133.  Matusi looked awful again.  Wang gave up 12 runs in less than 6 innings for 2 two games.  Don’t forget – because Clemens had such a terrible outing, [...]
