Great artice from Ian O’Connor on Fox Sports: Hey Boras, biggest deal isn’t always best

Over lunch I heard Mike and the Dog say that the LaRussa rumor is being driven by LaRussa’s people on his behalf. Mike T told me the same thing last night.Â
I tend to think there’s a little bit of truth to the rumor because Cashman could just come out and say – it’s a rumor, [...]

The manager is always the first thing to be discussed, but this off season it’s not the most important.Â
The new stadium coming in 2009 is probably the only thing that makes this 50/50 between LaRussa and Mattingly. It’s better to have Mattingly for 2009.  That’s probably what is making the brain trust consider this carefully. I mean [...]

I agree with Joe on Torre and I think in the end he stays. The alternatives are just not that attractive.
Based on what I read from A-Rod’s agent he will play hardball and ask for the moon Alice ($400,000,000 over ten years), plus free hotdogs.  If A-Rod oupts out, as I expect him to do, [...]

Hey, it could be Bowa or Pena for two years, but at the end of the day, neither represents an improvement over Torre. With next year being the last in the old stadium (hosting the Allstar game) and the following being the first year in the new stadium, picking the right guy to manage this [...]

Len, you bring up a good point. Bowa may emerge as the dark horse candidate. I have always thought that Bowa was an outsider. However, if you’re going to bring in an outsider (LaRussa) and keep the seat warm for Mattingly, why not Bowa? He’s been here for a couple of years so the players [...]

Russ…you’re right. “The process” is determing alternatives to Torre, if no alternative makes sense, Torre will be back with a two-year deal – maybe even a one year deal.
Honestly, I don’t think The Boss will like LaRussa. Torre MIGHT be back. Â
I expect the Mets to make a big run at A-Rod. They were talking [...]

I agree with Russ about the issues that have to be resolved. Given the fact that the Yankees are a billion dollar corporation that have to be careful not to upset the winning (“$”) formula they have had over the past twelve years. So the decision to dump Torre is not that easy. Given the [...]

I don’t hear many people speaking on behalf of the Yankees that seem to be taking up Torre’s defense. Particularly Cashman. Of course earlier in the season, Steinbrenner said that Cashman was on “the big hook” himself so, it’s difficult for Cashman to go to the for Torre. Torre hasn’t exactly given Cashman with alot [...]
