Not the first time Torre was offered deal…
by RussVery interesting. I knew Torre’s current contract included incentives (just not at the levels in the recent offer) but it is interesting to read a baseball writer’s “take” on the situation which is pro-Yankee organization. Hopefully, once they name Mattingly as manager this will be put behind us. I will add one thing: It’s just not that Torre didn’t like the incentives and the term. He didn’t want to be considerably weakened. And from his perspective, why should he put up with it? The more I think about it, the more I believe what happened was an inevitable parting of the ways. The organization had a right to expect more. And, it’s ok for Torre to not want to put up with being weakened and his every move questioned. Now kiss and make up!Â
