metroundtable

We can talk Mets! Omar is a publicity hound which is evidenced by the Daily News front cover showing A-Rod and the Mets talking.  Omar wants some PR, man!  And Scott Boras wants the appearance of a NY team involved to pump up the price (because the Yanks sure ain’t in it).   So right now [...]

I know..

I know this isn’t Met Roundtable….but I’m intrigued by the options the Mets have:
They can sign A-Rod. Move Wright to first. Trade Delgado somewhere for a reliever or two. Put Lastings Milledge in CF. And with the addition of A-Rod’s production, trade Beltran, Pelfrey, and some other prospect to the Twins for Johan Santana. Or trade [...]

Creative Options

In addition to Cashman being careful with the arbitration offers (the Clemens foul-up was unforgivable, not on the David Ortiz level, but still) —– Cashman needs to get a little creative here to fill some of these needs because the free agent pool, quite frankly, stinks.  This off season, we’re really going to see Cashman [...]

Strategery.

To quote Will Farrell as George Bush.  Cashman has to be careful here.  No dumb mistakes.   Remember when Clemens declared free agency when he “retired.”  Cashman never put an arbitration claim in on Clemens and when the Rocket signed with the Astros, the Yankees got bubkis in terms of free agent compensation.  I want none of [...]

Don’t worry about Pettitte

Pettitte will be back.  All he is doing is creating a new contract which will include another 1 year player’s option.   He proved to himself that he could pitch successfully in the American league and his elbow is fine.  My guess is that he still wants to pitch, and this is the only way [...]

Pettitte

I’m suprised by this because at the end of the season he said his elbow felt great.  So I figured that was “in the bank.”  We certainly do need him next season – he was so terrific last year and obviously his performance against Cleveland was “courageous.”  I won’t begrudge him though if he decides [...]

Beware the snowball effect

Torre takes Mattingly and Bowa west, Pettitte still thinking, this does not bode well. Girardi was Andy’s catcher, he better get involved. Andy does not seem the vindictive sort, but remember how the Yanks dumped him unceremoniously and he headed home to the Astros. What goes around……..

Pettitte Indecisive

…declines $16 million option.
This makes me nervous. I wanted this matter done a settled by his deadline (tomorrow). Now its up in the air. He says he needs more time to think about family first, then baseball. The Yankees need him next year.
Andy, there will be plenty of time for your [...]
