Predictions sure to go wrong.
by Mike TA comment on JB’s predictions…
- A-Rod will not sign with the Mets. Too much cash, no where to play him.
- Willis and Cabrerra to Dodgers. No idea. It could happen.
- Bonds to Angels. Nope. He either ends up in Oakland (on a cheap deal) or Texas (home of the Steroid users – see Canseco, Sosa, Palmiero, Pudge etc.) Bonds is signed in late December or early January after the Mitchell report comes out.
- Santana to the Red Sox – I will light myself on fire. If I’m Santana I sign no extensions and go for free agency next year.
- Posada and Rivera as Yankees. Yes. There is no other place they will end up.
- Beltran to the Angels for Lackey or Santana. NO way. Beltran has a complete no trade clause and Lackey or Ervin Santana is no where near a fair exchange in value. (For giggles you should see Beltran’s contract – A Boras special loaded with RIDICULOUS incentives and demands.)
- Lowell resigned by the Sox. Probably likely.
- Tejada to NY for Farnsworth and B-Prospects. Nope. Why would you as the Orioles ever want Farnsworth.
- Rowand signed by Yankees. Possible.
- Melky and Matsui to Chicago for Konkero and Garland. Konerko is in the second year of a 5 year deal. $12M per year. He’s signed through 2010 and he likes Chicago. He has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to list 6 teams to which he can’t be traded without consent. The Yankees are likely on that list. Garland has 1 year and $12M on his deal. Matsui has a NO-Trade clause and has 2 years $26M left on his deal. I see no way this happens. Â

I should have prefaced my predicitions by saying that I was trying to think outside the box. Outside of all the things we’ve been hearing.
FYI: The Orioles WANT Farnesworthtless. Yes, I’m serious.
Ken Williams would like to get out from under some big contracts. Maybe to free up cash to make a run at A-Rod? Konerko is being shopped. So is almost every starter.
I don’t see Hideki Matusi being moved unless the Yankees pick up part of the contract. He makes $13 million, is below average defensively – he’s essentially a DH.
Tejeda is interesting but do the Orioles move him within the Division?
I would take Garland off of their hands. He is a serviceable #3 in case the Yankees change their minds and want to put Chamberlain back into the pen.
Mike is right about Santana. That’s why if he is being shopped around, the Twins won’t get much for him. As I’ve stated, I wouldn’t part with much because he can walk at the end of the year.
Boston is not realistic for A-Rod. They are only mentioned to pump up the price – like the Mets. And Boston doesn’t care if the price is pumped up, what do they care if the Angels have to spend an extra $30 million to get him? Only outside shot of Boston parting with talent to get Santana for one year.
Beltran isn’t going anywhere. The Mets are going to do the following: Try to trade for Santana (the Twins won’t want Beltran); Try to trade for Rich Harden (Goodbye Lastings Milledge) or Willis (and maybe Cabrera too). The Mets need a starter desperately. They don’t need any more offense.
