Baseball season starts….

Monday, February 4, 2008 as far as I’m concerned.  Can’t wait to have this Super Bowl played.  The extra week off is torture.
Memo to the Mets: Stop messing around, sign Santana.  If you can’t make the deal – have your fans believe you have just acquired the best pitcher in baseball only to ship him [...]

Interesting news….

Apparently, the Yankees were sufficiently satisfied that they had called Boston’s bluff and had also made the determination that they did not want to spend the $$$ it would take to secure Santana long term.  I would hope Klapisch got his info right because Melky, Kennedy (and perhaps a B-level prospect) is not too much [...]

Congratulations!

To Michael and Amy!  Being a somewhat new parent myself, (daughter is now 2) – it’s nice to hear good news and I’m sure they are ready for the wonderful roller coaster ride of being a parent (and of course, the lack of sleep).  At least Mike will now have a little companion when he [...]

More interesting other news…

A new Roundtabler was born last night to Michael and Amy.  4 weeks early – 6lbs, 6oz.  Joseph Ryle Gallo  Baby and Mom are doing fine.  He looks like a shortstop.

More Interesting Santana News..

According to Bob Klapisch, the Twins called the Yankees on Monday, desperate to get the Santana deal done.  The Twins even came off their demand for Phil Hughes.  Apparently, they asked the Yankees for Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera and prospects and were told “No thanks”.  Then the Twins called the Red Sox only to find [...]

Whew!

Yes, I heard driving home last night that it was done (with the 72 hour window), that Santana was traded to the Mets for 4 prospects (not including Mike Pelfrey).  This is the best possible result from a Yankee fans’ perspective.  Get him out of the American League and we didn’t give up any of [...]

Whispers

I’m hearing rumors that the Mets have just traded for Johan Santana.  Details as they come.

Sounds good

Yes, Cano is a solid bat especially for a 2nd baseman. His defense only suffers when he daydreams, but I think that is something that will improve with more experience and maturity.
Speaking of NYY 2nd basemen past, it seems to me Chuck Knobloch’s throwing problems came “out of nowhere.” He was a veteran and even [...]

Cano you say $$$$?

Word is the Yanks and Cano are on the verge of a four year deal worth about $30 million with club options to prevent Cano from reaching free agency.  This is an area where Cashman excels.  Good move.  Lock him up.  Cano can hit for average.  Cano can hit for power.  Heck, Cano even makes [...]

Donnie Baseball

I see Mattingly has given up the batting coach position on the Dodgers to be major-league special assignment coach for the 2008 season because of family reasons.  I wonder what his problem is.  On second thought, he’s earned his privacy.  Let’s leave him alone.
