Jeter has no problem with MLB blood tests for any illegal substance without significant restrictions, if I heard the radio report correctly today. He is implying the players’ union has hurt baseball, at least in public perception, by contractual restrictions on testing.
I was in Rome most of last week, we may need a substance test for double espresso, that [...]

A-Rod made those exaggerrated comments intentionally. Yes, intentionally. Why?
To chum the waters to draw the sharks, er press, away from Pettitte.
And…it worked. Just like Torre did years ago when to teed off against the press after a playoff loss.
Now in today’s papers he’s making predictions about the season ahead for Jeter and Abreu.
Good job A-Rod.Â

to spring training and already the press is bothering A-Rod. Gee whiz give the guy a break. And obviously, A-rod never helps himself out by exaggerating the number of tests and saying he wants his daughter to marry Andy Pettitte. We know what he meant by mentioning both those things. Gee, leave the guy alone [...]

Yeah, I happen to agree. I think Pettitte is basically honest. He obviously cheated by using this stuff, but if it was difficult for one of the more honest players to come clean with his own usage, just think about the other players out there and why they are in such denial about this. I [...]

Due to reader outrage (read my wife) that we have not posted anything regarding Andy Pettitte’s statement the other day at Steinbrenner Field, let me quickly address the following points.
Andy seemed to be fairly honest and forthwright with his comments. In my recollection, he is the first active player to sit down and actually answer detailed [...]

You’re right there really isn’t a #1 starter on this staff. Those guys are few and far between. When you’re a $200 million payroll team, it’s hard to say you’re rebuilding, and they are definitely not rebuilding their everyday lineup. They are however, trying to “re-tool” their rotation on the fly. The observation that Wang [...]

I didn’t want to give up the farm for Santana…but does anyone really have a lot of confidence in this rotation??? Where is the “#1″???
This team still does not have a stopper. If the Yanks had Santana, and not Wang, they would have gone a lot farther in the 2007 playoffs. This team still has [...]

I thought about Andy. I believe he’ll be ready to go on Monday. He’ll answer the questions but beyond that he’ll be fine. Mussina, if we get anything out of him this year, I’ll be surpirsed. Keep in mind, often the rotations that you bring north after spring training are not necessarily the ones you [...]

OK, we have Mussina, who usually keeps his mouth shut, opining on Pettitte’s having to face the media. At best, Pettitte is way behind his now non-substance abusing off-season training regimen. Mussina is old, he can outthink hitters for a few innings but a 82 mile an hour fastball is no longer major league caliber. He may embarass [...]

McNamee’s lawyer basically said today, that the reason Clemens feels comfortable in issuing these denials under oath even in the face of a possible perjury prosecution is because his friendship with the Bush family will result in an eventual pardon. Even if there were legitimate reasons why President Bush may want to pardon Clemens prior to leaving office early next [...]
