Apparently Heath Phillips got into some major trouble in the first inning, gave up a couple of runs, had guys on base all over the place and hit a batter.  Umpire immediately ejected him (is he really trying to hit someone there, or did he just lose the plate completely?  I don’t know).  I guess the Yanks were miffed that Phillips got a quick ejection instead of a warning.  Then, when the Yankees are batting, Duncan, gets a base hit and tries to stretch it into a double, but is thrown out by a mile……. Duncan goes into second with spikes up (I guess it’s not clear whether this is in response to Phillips’ ejection or the incident last week).  Apparently, it was pretty clear to the second base umpire that Duncan was out of line, because he ejected him immediately.  Johnny Gomes, comes flying in from the bullpen in right field to “duke” it out with Duncan and the benches clear, caos ensues.  No one knows if anyone was hurt in the fight, but apparently Jeter and A-Rod didn’t make the trip, so they were safely away at a distance.

What the heck are the Yankees doing?  Why is Duncan going into second base with his spikes up in a spring training game?  I mean, Girardi, get a hold of the troops there!  I like to see some fire too, but it is only spring training.  The idea that anyone would get into a fight in a spring training game is completely incomprehensible to me.  Save it for the regular season.  Save it for when it counts.  Holy Gosh, these games are meaningless.  Adopt a hockey mentality - hockey players have long memories and settle scores later, sometimes much later.
