I think it needs to be explored. In the end you’re right we don’t want someone who needs to be convinced. But sometimes – people have preconceived notions about things which really do not reflect reality. And by talking to someone, you can change people’s ideas. I would explore it, see what the Padres want, try to talk to Peavy – we’ve had some bad luck with guys recently, but I wouldn’t want to pass up an opportunity just because I’ve been burned by someone like Randy Johnson (as an example). I do think it’s a long-shot because in the end, the Yanks have the money to go out and get Sabathia…. which reduces the need for front of the line starter. If Joba is healthy that’s two front line guys along with Wang and Hughes (who is supposedly burning through the Fall League, hopefully he’ll stay healthy and carry it through).

Curtis Maybin from Florida is probably what the doctor ordered. Young, up and coming, athletic outfielder. Again, Cashman should be working the phones and exploring – see what Florida wants, see what Pittsburgh wants for McLouth perhaps play one off of the other, and then make a decision.

There should be plenty of activity this off-season.
