Drying Out
by RussI guess this World Series will be forever remembered as “the one with the suspended game.”
As far as Maybin goes, I’d be willing to take a chance on him because he’s young and still developing, but Cano straight up is too much. Cano is further along in his development (despite last season).
And Peavy, the great equalizer here is $$$. Yeah, he’s got a no-trade but when did that ever stop the Yankees from asking for permission to talk to Peavy and say: “Son, consider us, there’s no better place to play and we’ll pay you market value.” Translation: We’ll rip up your current deal and give you something more “attractive.” But, yes we’ve got to find out if he does want to play here before going through all of this.
Tex: I’m not into a 6 year deal. I’d rather give him more $$$ for a shorter term – although he’s younger now than Giambi was at the beginning of his long term deal (28 as opposed to 30?). But, in fairness to Giambi – right before he signed the long term deal with the Yankees, he was the more accomplished offensive player than Tex on his best day. Unfortunately, Giambi had injuries (some resulting from prohibited substances) which is why I would prefer the shorter term.
