Players
by John BHere is a list of some players that the Yanks should target in the offseason via trade, I’m not saying that they would be able to aquire any of these guys…but it’s worth a sniff:
Arizona: Chris Young (CF), Conor Jackson (1B), Max Scherzer (SP) Arizona is good. They’re looking to get better, not trade away good players. So the chances of getting Young are slim. He’s 25 and hits for power. Would be a perfect fit for Yanks. Jackson is OK. Not great, not bad. Scherzer (sp) is a top prospect, but Arizona already has Haren and Webb….and they need some offense.
Atlanta: Francouer (RF) He had a horrible year last year – sent down to minors – and he’s an Atlanta native. But the fans booed him last year. He’s young and big with a GREAT arm and has some pop. Lots of upside…and risk.
Detroit: Placido Palanco (1B, 2B) He’s not young (33), but he’s a winner with a great bat. Could be a cheaper option at 1B than Tex. Or a replacement for a few years should they trade Cano. Not sure he would be available, but he’s the type of player the Yanks could use.
KC: David DeJesus (CF) He’s available. He’s from NY – went to Rutgers. Very good defensive CF and he’s left handed. Hit .307 last year.
Florida: I’ve already mentioned Cameron Maybin (CF).
Cubs: Felix Pie (CF). Young (23), hasn’t proven himself. Cubs are kind of fed up. But lots of speed and power potential.
Houston: Hunter Pence (CF): He’s young at 25 and hit 25 bombs last year. He’s not going anywhere, but figured I’d drop his name anyway. Lance Berkman (1B): He’s 33. But he’s left handed, is available, and might be a better option than Tex for a few years given the money factor.
Milwaukee: Corey Hart (RF): Young (25) with some pop (20 bombs). Might not be available, but they need a second baseman with again Ray Durham at the position. Probably not available.
Pittsburg: McLouth (CF) of course. Will probably take a lot to get him.
Colorado: Matt Holliday (LF, CF) is very available. Probably take too much to get him. Numbers on the road might be a concern.
Dodgers: Ethier/Kemp (LF, CF, RF). Young – will take a lot to get them. I’d take Pierre for his speed and CF defense, but he doesn’t have a great arm and his OBP (.327) isn’t that great for a leadoff type hitter. But I’d take him anyway for CF anyway.
San Diego: Jody Gerut (CF). 31 year old lefty with some good production (.296, 14HR). Cheap at $700K – which is probably why he won’t be available. Chase Headley. 24 year old switch hitter who can play all the outfield positions.
San Fran: They need help everywhere. But I’ll take Rowand who they overpaid last year. And, of course, Matty Cain. Might be a very good trade opportunity there. Rowand/Cain for Cano/Kennedy/Melky? Who the hell knows.
