The Hall of Fame
by RussA very nice weekend indeed up in Cooperstown, NY. My daughter is at the age where she can start to understand things. It was nice to see her “run around” the HOF and investigating different things. They have a “Sandlot Kids’ Clubhouse” where the kids can put on uniforms and watch videos. One of her favorite parts was the Ballpark exhibit that had different recordings of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” One of them had Phil Rizzuto singing it along with another of Harry Caray, etc, so we played the Scooter version and of course it was a big hit. Fortunately, early Sunday morning we pretty much had the museum to ourselves so she was able to play it a few times and dance around. There are so many opportunities to teach children at the HOF, about history, cultural diversity, etc….. and obviously, when you stare at a replica of the Phillie Phanatic, it’s hard not to have fun as well.
I always focus on something different when I go, this time it was Bob Feller, who is a real American Hero – served with distinction in WWII and then of course comes back to finish his HOF career. Like Ted Williams, he served in our nation’s military during the prime of his career. What an individual!
