Bob Feller

“Individual” is the right word to describe him.  I remember in the 90’s, when I was in the memorabilia business, and ballplayers were selling their soles to show promoters, who sold player autographs for $25 and up.  Bob Feller refused to make deals with the promoters and would take his own table at memorabilia shows [...]

The Hall of Fame

A very nice weekend indeed up in Cooperstown, NY.  My daughter is at the age where she can start to understand things.  It was nice to see her “run around” the HOF and investigating different things.  They have a “Sandlot Kids’ Clubhouse” where the kids can put on uniforms and watch videos.  One of her [...]

cashman in, cash flows out

Cashman sees CC and he raises. Well that’s not accurate, he raises before anyone else bids.  Now, round and round the Roundtable will spin…

Deal or No Deal

Exactly!  Except in this game show, each briefcase has the money in it!
All right – but there has to be at least one sober sailor on this pinstriped ship.  Just please, exercise restraint on Manny.  I only want to read about the Yankees being peripherally involved so as to drive up the price.  I don’t [...]

Free Agency Begins.

Come and Get it!!!

It’s Friday!  Which means Brian Cashman has backed the Brinks trucks up to the Stadium and started loading them up with lots and lots of Yankees Cash.  Ready to be delivered to the cream of the free agent crop.
I assume that at 12:01am this morning, CC Sabathia got about 30 text messsages [...]

Ok, a solid first move

I won’t take credit for Swisher.  Someone else had mentioned it before me.  But, as a “stop gap” move, this one is good.  Giving up Jeff Marquez, Wilson Betemit and whoever else is acceptable.
Swisher is a useful player – a quick review of his stats reveals that he strikes out too much, but I note [...]

For all the Superstitious..

The Babe has begun the process of moving across the street.  CBS video shows The Babe being shrink wrapped and boxed for movement to the new digs.  The sad part of the video is right at the begining - seeing the blank spaces on the walls behind the yankee representative where the plaques used to be.

YANKEES ACQUIRE TEXEIRA!!

No not that Texiera.  Kanekoa Texeira.  According to Peter Abraham:
The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquired switch-hitting first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher and right-handed pitcher Kanekoa Texeira from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for infielder Wilson Betemit and right-handed pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez
Word from ESPN is that the Yankees have [...]

Decision Marte, not Ex Parte

I think the Yankees heard from all sides on this one, and made an informed decision.  Down the stretch, we saw a very effective bullpen managed by Girardi.  He had two good lefthanders to go to, to mix and match against any lineup.  Forget the cost.  It doesn’t matter.  If Marte doesn’t work out for [...]

Marte not so Smarte

I agree with Russ that the Marte signing is a bit troubling.  Yes its nice to have a so called dominant lefty in the pen.  However, I was not completely sold on his effectiveness (I felt he wilted in the more pressure packed scenarios) AND if he left via free agency, the Yankees would have [...]
