The Yanks will sign either Teixeira or Manuel. But, the reason I think the Yanks MAY end up signing Teixeira is this:

  1. They know they need a big bat. It’s no secret.
  2. Hank wants Manny and will push for him to be signed.
  3. Girardi and Cashman don’t want the baggage that comes with Manny since they will be the ones that need to deal with it.
  4. They can’t have and don’t need both Teixeira AND Manny.
  5. If the Yanks sign Teixeira, the best available bats will not be going to be in Boston.  Since Manny isn’t going back to Boston.
  6. So, why sign Manny if Teixeira is available?
  7. By signing Teixeira, you keep him from the Sox, you get your big switch hitting bat and stellar firstbaseman…and the Sox will need to settle for a second tier bat: Dunn, etc.
