Russ…I also like Berkman. He’d fit in perfectly.

The Yanks asked about him in VERY early November…so early, in fact, that it might have still been October. They asked about both Berkman AND Oswalt.

At that time, the Astros communicated that neither Berkman nor Oswalt were available. I’ve heard on the radio and read that Drayton McLane has changed his position somewhat…and the party line is that ONLY Oswalt is untouchable.

When I heard this, I wondered if the Yanks would jump back into the fold. And it makes complete sense….as the Yanks could solve both their center field and A-Rod protection issues…

I would want Lance Berkman AND Michael Bourn. Bourn is VERY fast (41 SBs) and a great defender.  His OBP isn’t great and he doesn’t have much in the way of power (5 HRs). But he’s not an ”in-between” player like Melky.  Melky’s not a basestealer or a power hitter or an OBP guy…what IS he? Bourn is a speed guy…and he’s young.

I would send them Melky, Swisher OR Nady, and Ian Kennedy for Bourn and Berkman. Tell Milwaukee to stuff Cameron…well…you know.
