Sheffield: Part II

Bottom line…a case for either player can be made. Although, I don’t think Teixeira strikes the type of fear into opposing pitchers that Manny does.
My greatest challenge with Tex is the contract length.
My greatest challenge with Manuel is whether his signing will turn into Sheffield: Part II.
Manny says he wants to hit 700 HRs. He [...]

Can’t blame a guy for trying!

Hey, I tried.  I just don’t want to give 22-24 million per year to a guy that hits 28-32 HRs and on a good year drives in 125 RBIs, and be locked into him for 8 years when at the back end of the contract is more like 18 HRs and 95-105 RBIs.   In Manny’s [...]

Ok, I’ve thought about it………too.

Sorry, Russ, you didn’t convince me.   To me, this is a no brainer, especially when you look back at the dynasty team of the late 90’s.  Look at the type of players they had… play hard every day, do anything to win.  Is that Manny? No.  Is that Texiera?  Yes.  I don’t care how many [...]

Ok, I’ve thought about it………

Good post Mike, on the numbers between Manny and Texeria.  The numbers are somewhat similar, of course Tex is better with the glove.  And this is a difficult choice – Manny isn’t perfect – otherwise it would be a no brainer.  I’m going to break with my more traditional inclinations and offer an enthusiastic vote [...]

Cash and The Man

In reference to the reported 3-year, $75 million offer to Manny:
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman shot down the report early Monday. “Not true,” Cashman wrote in a text message.

The Man, The Wolf and The Giants.

The Man – Manny.   As a loyal reader (JimMc) pointed out in my Post “$75 Million reasons to say no.”  Manny would be motivated 19 times a year (all the games against Boston).  That is undoubtedly true.  But he does really like New York.  I have heard stories that back when Willie was the 3rd [...]

Comeback

Wow…I didn’t think the Giants would pull that one out. I turned off the game.
As for the Yanks and Tex/Manuel….I think their thinking may go a little like this:
“Teixeira is good. Probably very good. But (as Russ mentioned earlier) he’s not one of the top players in the game; He’s just one of the top free [...]

The Comeback Kids

The New York Giants.  Nice job.  That was clutch – with home field advantage throughout the playoffs staring them in the face they came back and beat a determined Carolina team.  Many kudos to Ward to rushed for 215 yards.  Nice going all around.
For the Jets, well….. that’s a different story.   So, how about those [...]
