Sorry, Russ, you didn’t convince me.   To me, this is a no brainer, especially when you look back at the dynasty team of the late 90’s.  Look at the type of players they had… play hard every day, do anything to win.  Is that Manny? No.  Is that Texiera?  Yes.  I don’t care how many years you have to give Tex.  He’s a position player, not a pitcher.  He keeps himself in great shape.  He’s a great guy, family man and a great teammate.  And as Mike pointed out, his numbers are as good as Manny’s.   Don’t worry about Posada or Jeter playing first base.  That’s what the DH spot is for.  The Yankees will have to deal with that when the time comes, but not now.  Give Texiera the 8 years and $180MM.  2 years from now, that will look cheap.  I guarantee it.  Texiera will help keep this team on top for many, many years.  Manny will help for one year at best before he blows up.  Cashman… the RedSox and Angels gave you an opening.  Take it.
