Was it the original Moose? Skowron? I know he was unbelievable in world series play.
No clue, but I don’t believe it happenned in the modern era. so I will say Lou Gehrig
I should know this having read Scooter’s book “The October Twelve” which was about the 12 players who played on the five in a row teams from 1949-1953. It’s not Moose Skowron – I want to say Ol Reliable, Tommy Heinrich then.
5 Points for Russ.
Tommy Henrich
I’m an idoit. I read the book and got it wrong. I actually read two books, although I’m not sure it was mentioned in “Summer of 49″ an excellent book by the late David Halberstam (who authored “The Best and the Brightest”) about the Yankee-Red Sox race that season which culminated in a three game playoff for the pennant. I recommend it because there are so many angles to it. McCarthy-Stengal, Joe DiMaggio’s last hurrah of heroics, and of course, the series itself which was epic. I’m not sure if the World Series was mentioned because the book was really about Yankees – Red Sox and that playoff.
