The sane article comes from San Fran

This is a sane, non-sensational, view of the book from Bruce Jenkins at the SFGate. Proof that we need to READ IT before judging it…
Since when do we rely on the NY Post, NY Daily News, or the New York Times for reliable, fact-based, ethical, responsible reporting????

The Yankee Years

Yeah….  I wouldn’t buy it.  You’re right – we lived it.  I don’t know maybe I’m going soft in my old age, but when I look back I think Torre’s departure was fine.  Consider this:
Mike is right.  Torre was on borrowed time.  If many of you recall, after the Detroit playoff loss, I wrote a [...]

A Personal Plea to all Roundtable Readers!

DO NOT BUY THE YANKEE YEARS.  If you must read it, check it out from your local library.  Do not put money in the pockets of Verducci and Torre for something that we all knew already.

The Yankee Years.

Listen here.  I don’t care if the book is written in the 3rd person.  The book is “co-authored” by Joe Torre, meaning all of the book is attributable to him, unless he makes specific representations that certain chapters are written by him.  I agree that this permanently divorces him from the Yankees until the Steinbrenner [...]

Welcome Back

Welcome Back, the deal is whack, Andy’s on crack……
Nice job.  Now all we need is a little bit of Bernie in CF.

Pettitte back in the fold

The Yankees and Pettitte have agreed to a 1-year, $5.5 million, incentive-laden deal.  Incentives can bring the total up to about $12 million.  I guess that’s how he saves face, but the guaranteed $10.5 million sounds like a better deal to me.  Anyway, welcome back.

Hype

All the salacious “leaked” excepts from this book were intentional. They were leaked to create this media stir, to incite the outrage being discussed on sports-talk radio. This was all part of the plan to sell books. What recent sports book hasn’t followed this model?
The timing of the book: to be released just prior to [...]

Torre’s book

This ESPN article makes it seem that all these reports are overblown.  Also, the book is not writen from Torre’s perspective.  It’s a third-person account.  I guess I’ll have to read the book before judgement… but that’s what they want me to do, isn’t it?! It’s all about selling books.

Torre’s book

I’m with everyone else… why on Earth is he writing a book now?  We tend to expect these “tell all” books after the fact, but he’s still managing.  It makes no sense.  This is very un-Torre-like.  We all view Torre a little differently now and that’s not a good thing.  I wonder what this does [...]

2009 All Un-Signed Team

Newsday sports writers have no imagination.  Article in todays paper came right from John B’s post about the free agents still un-signed.  More evidence that what is written here is ten times better than what you read in Newsday.  And by the way, Wallace Mathews is a mean-spirited jerk.  He didn’t write today’s free agent [...]
